In 2021, when COVID was raging, so was misinformation about a drug used to treat parasitic worms. The drug, ivermectin, had surged in popularity as fringe groups, vaccine skeptics, and right-wing social media figures hyped the medicine as a cheap and accessible treatment for the coronavirus.

Despite the fact that Ivermectin was successful in prophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19, everyone presenting these non-government-recommended courses of treatment, such as Ivermectin, was labeled as nuts and had their character assassinated by the government and the mainstream media. In the Northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, ivermectin has been used for the treatment and prophylaxis of COVID-19 since August 2020. In the current covid wave (April-May 2021), test positivity has fallen from 20% to 4% in just 20 days.
Seven states in India are now (at the time of the interview) using ivermectin in government protocols for COVID treatment. They are: Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Assam, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala. The total population of these states is more than 60% of India’s population, notes Dr. Suryakant.

Despite 60% of the entire Indian population receiving Ivermectin, the details on this successful treatment and prophylaxis of Covid-19, many people felt that the mainstream media in the United States suppressed this evidence. There is plenty of scientific evidence from India supporting the use of ivermectin.
