How to Join a Study
You can’t sign up for a study from ClinicalTrials.gov, but you can find the information you need to contact the study. If you need help, contact your health care provider.
Find a study. (see How to Search for Clinical Studies)
Search using the filters on the home page of ClinicalTrials.gov.
Tips:
Search for a study about a disease or health condition using the Condition/disease filter. Enter and search for one condition at a time.
In the Location filter, enter your address or zip code, then use the radius bar to search for clinical studies within a certain distance of where you live.
Under the More Filters menu, find the Eligibility Criteria (participation criteria) and search for studies that match your age, sex, and gender.
To find studies looking for participants, go to Study Status and select “Recruiting and not yet recruiting studies.”
Review the list of studies you found on the Search Results page and select the ones that interest you. (see How to Use Search Results)
After you run a search, scroll through the list of studies. You can add or remove filters if your list is too long or too short.
Open the study record and review the study details. (see How to Read a Study Record)
Check the Participation Criteria section to see whether you might match the study based on your age, sex, and health condition. Ask your health care provider about the participation criteria and other study details to make sure the study is right for you.
Look in the Contacts and Locations section to:
See if there is a study location that works for you
See if there is a central contact or contact at a specific location
Once a study has completed adding new participants, contact information will no longer appear in the study record.
Call or email the central contact or the contact at a specific location to learn more about the study and options for joining.
Sometimes, the information on a study record is not up to date. If you don’t hear back from the study contact, you can try again, or the study may be completed, and the information has not yet been updated on ClinicalTrials.gov. If you still need help, you can ask your health care provider.
